अङ्कुरः एव सारदर्शी

कदाचित् कक्षायाम् अध्यापकः छात्रान् बोधयति यत् कापि सङ्ख्या तयैव सङ्ख्यया भाज्यते चेत् भागलब्धम् एकम् एव भवति ।  तदा एकः बालकः सन्देहं प्रकटयति यत् शून्यमपि काचन सङ्ख्या ।  'शून्यं शून्येन गुणितं चेदपि सङ्कलनं व्यवकलनं च कृतं चेदपि उत्तरं शून्यमेव भवति न तु एकम् ।  शून्यसङ्ख्यायाः वैचित्र्यम् इदम् इति भाति' इति अवदत् ।  एतत् श्रुत्वा यद्यपि अन्ये छात्राः परिहसन्ति । किन्तु अध्यापकः 'एषः सामान्यः बालकः न' इति निर्विण्णचेतस्कः अचिन्तयत् ।  सः एव महागणितज्ञः श्रीनिवासरामानुजमहाशयः ।

Once in a classroom, the teacher was explaining to the students that when a number is divided by itself, the result is always one. At that time, a boy expressed a doubt about zero, saying, ‘When zero is multiplied, added, or subtracted by zero, the result is always zero, not one. It seems that the number zero has a peculiarity’. Upon hearing this, other students laughed. However, the teacher thought to himself, ‘This boy is not ordinary’. That boy later became the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.

What is बालमोदिनी?

सम्भाषणसन्देशः इति संस्कृतमासिकपत्रिका (https://sambhashanasandesha.in) । एतस्यां पत्रिकायां प्रकाशिताः लेखाः, कथाः, बालकथाः, वार्ताः इत्यादिकं सर्वम् अपि सरलसंस्कृतेन एव प्रकाश्यते । तत्रत्याः “बालमोदिनी”नामिकाः बालकथाः अत्र प्रसार्यन्ते । अतः अस्याः शृङ्खलायाः नाम अपि “बालमोदिनी” एव । लघु गात्रं, सरला भाषा च कथानां विशेषः । प्रत्येकं कथा काञ्चित् नीतिं बोधयति । बालकथाः आबालवृद्धं सर्वेषां प्रियाः । संस्कृतेन ताः श्रोतुम् उपलब्धाः भवन्तु इति एषः प्रयत्नः श्रोतृभ्यः अवश्यं रोचेत इति विश्वासः । संस्कृतक्षेत्रे संस्कृतेन पॉड्कास्ट् क्रियमाणाः एताः प्रप्रथमाः कथाः इति सगौरवम् उद्घोष्यते ।
