5 tips to plan your year round homeschool schedule:

1. Make your plan - either choose how many weeks your school year will be (and the state doesn’t decide that - you do!) and check them off as you go, taking breaks as needed OR start by marking your Christmas break, then schedule backward up into September working in your breaks and then start again in January and work forward, marking in determined breaks until you want the school year to be complete.

2. Plan a fun rest day with your kids during break week, even if it’s just a park day with a coffee and a book.

3. Keep a running list during your school weeks of things you wish you had time to do, but don’t. It will collect up, but you’re intentionally postponing, not procrastinating, because you’re prioritizing education. Evaluate, pick what’s important from that list, and get some of those things done during break week - choose 1-2 days to dedicate to that

4. Take 1-2 hours during break week to clean out the kids’ school bins, straighten the books, find the pencils, and evaluate if you need to make adjustments to the checklist formats or workload.

5. Put homeschool on your list of top 3 weekly things and your top three daily things. Write a daily and weekly top 3 so you focus and prioritize and COUNT IT when you homeschool. It’s a vocation, a duty, a job - put in the hours without resentment. Check it off and be satisfied that you educated the children, even if there were math tears, even if your time got thrown off by parenting, even if dinner was just a quick and simple affair. Homeschooling takes time and effort!
