The night before, Jesus had stood beside Paul in a Roman barracks and told him to take courage, because he was going to Rome. By sunrise, forty men had gathered in a back room and bound themselves under a curse not to eat or drink until they had killed him. They took the plan to the chief priests, and Luke records no objection. Then a teenager nobody had heard of, the son of Paul’s sister, overheard the whole thing and walked it straight into the barracks. He told Paul. Paul sent him to the commander. The commander listened. A plot with every advantage of secrecy, manpower, and religious cover was dead before it started, undone by a kid who happened to be in the right hallway. Providence does not always arrive as fire. Sometimes it shows up as a nephew who is good at overhearing things.
