आचारानुगुणं फलम्

कदाचित् वङ्गप्रदेशात् कालिचरणनामकः कश्चन भगवद्भक्तः चम्पानगर्यां स्थितं विष्णुदेवालयम् आगतः । महत्याः वृष्ट्याः उपशान्तेः अनन्तरं सः भक्त्या कर्दमपूर्णे मार्गे नृत्यं कुर्वन् अग्रे अगच्छत् । तदवसरे तस्य पादक्षेपेण उत्थितः कर्दमः कस्याश्चित् महिलायाः शाटिकां पतितः इति कारणेन तस्याः पतिः क्रोधेन दुर्वचनानि वदन् कालिचरणं प्रहृतवान् । कालिचरणः कारणम् अवगत्य दुःखितः भूत्वा धर्मशालां प्रति प्रस्थितः । सा महिला अपि दुर्वचनानि अवदत् । तदवसरे पादस्खलनेन तस्याः पतिः भूमौ पतित्वा मूर्छितः अभवत् । तदा कालिचरणः अवदत् 'यदि सः पतिः प्रियतमां पत्नीं प्रति असावधानेन मया कृतम् अपराधं न क्षाम्येत् तर्हि मद्विषये सावधानेन तेन कृतम् अपराधं मत्प्रियः श्रीहरिः कथं‌ क्षाम्येत्?’ इति । तदा तत्र सम्मिलिताः सर्वे 'अयं महान् भगवद्भक्तः' इति ज्ञात्वा क्षमाम् अयाचन्त ।

Kalicharana, a devotee from Bengal, visited a Vishnu temple in Champanagari. After heavy rain, while dancing through a muddy path in devotion, his foot splashed mud onto a woman’s sari. Her angry husband insulted and struck him. Saddened, Kalicharana quietly left for a dharmashala. Later, the husband slipped and fainted. Kalicharana humbly said, “If he cannot forgive my unintentional mistake, how will Lord Hari forgive the husband's deliberate ones?” Moved by his words, everyone recognized him as a true devotee and sought his forgiveness.
