अल्पोपि उपकारः भवेत् महते फलाय

१८८५ तमे वर्षे नेल्सन् नाम्नः कश्चन निवृत्तः सेनाधिकारी यदा वायुविहारार्थं गतवान् तदा समुत्पन्नेन चक्रवातेन तस्य शिरस्त्रं वायुना नीतम् ।  चक्रवातबाधाम् उपेक्ष्य शिरस्त्रम् आनीय दत्तवत्यै पुष्पानामिकायै बालिकायै सः सेनाधिकारी कृतज्ञतां समर्प्य, तस्याः‌ नामसङ्केतादिकं स्वीये लघुपुस्तके लिखित्वा ततः निर्गतः। अनन्तरं यदा पुष्पायाः पतिः प्लेग्रोगेण ग्रस्तः असीत् तदा चिकित्सालये कश्चन वैद्याधिकारी तस्याः नाम ज्ञात्वा, तां घटनां वदति । सः एव तस्य सेनाधिकारिणः पुत्रः यः पुष्पायाः पत्युः चिकित्सार्थं समुचितां व्यवस्थाम् अकरोत् । कदाचित् कृतः अल्पः उपकारः महत् एव फलं ददाति ।

In the year 1885, while a retired military commander named Nelson was walking in the garden, his hat was carried away by a whirlwind. A young girl, ignoring the risk, brought the hat back and gave it to him. The commander, feeling grateful, wrote down her name in a small book and left. A few years later, when the girl’s husband was suffering from plague, the doctor who was treating him asked for the girl’s name and recalled the incident. The doctor was none other than the commander’s son, who later treated her husband with the utmost care. Even the slightest act of help and kindness can yield great results.
