Ms. Williams:can't wait to see it.
Mrs. Quintero:I'm waiting for that day.
Ms. Williams:I'm ready. I'm ready.
Mrs. Quintero:I know that blue and gold day is just too easy.
Ms. Williams:But it's gonna be great and we're gonna show up because like we always do That's how we do that down the road.
Mrs. Quintero:Alright, so now we're on to our best part of the segment. I'm gonna send it on over to Ms. Williams and she's got a lot of great things to say.
Ms. Williams:So hey everybody, it's Ms. Williams aka your favorite school counselor. Mean duh like come on really? And today we're going to be talking about how to thrive and survive in school. Okay because we understand it can be hard so whether you're in elementary or middle school you've got homework, friends, teachers, and maybe even some activities after school, that can feel like a lot, right?
Ms. Williams:It can feel like a lot sometimes. But guess what? I'm here to provide a few, you know, simple tips you can use to help stay on top of the things that feel very stressful and I'm here to make it less stressful so let's just jump in. Alright so tip number one organization. I don't know about you but I can't stand a lot of mess.
Ms. Williams:I mean it's chaotic it makes me feel cluttered right? So good organization is going to help y'all write things down. If you know you got a test in this class or you got homework in this class or you need a study in this class write it down. Okay say it with me planner write it down use a planner a notebook sticky notes whatever you need to do write it down I'm a visual let me see what I got to do and check it off as you go alright if you have multiple classes use color folders for your subjects it will make things easier and the best thing I could really really tell you pack the night before. Please do not wait till seven a.
Ms. Williams:M. When you know you got to be in the car at 07:15 to pack this do this. I left my homework, I'd eat breakfast, oh wait I've left my school sweater, oh wait where are my socks? Come on friends we got to do better okay so organization tip one. Let's go ahead and jump into tip two balance okay with all caps balance.
Ms. Williams:School is difficult but so is friends and families and sports and all the things that you know we want to balance our life with but how do we actually balance? So if you know you have homework do it in chunks. I'm not asking you to do all seven of your classes at one time. Do it in chunks take break. Guys when I say a break I'm talking like five minutes ten minutes put it down and get back into it you know so you can give your brain a little mental health.
Ms. Williams:Alright for those who like to read or draw give yourself a break. My last thing I can say when it comes to balance is know your limits. If you know you are in too many activities it's okay to take some of that off your plate you know slow some things down just a little balance because you cannot do it all. I know we all want to be superheroes but everybody needs a break. We just limits.
Ms. Williams:Just limits. Alright? Alright. And I want to leave you guys with one final tip. Stress relievers.
Ms. Williams:I don't know about you but I can't stand being stressed. Do you like being stressed, miss?
Mrs. Quintero:I do not like being stressed.
Ms. Williams:I don't like being stressed. Okay? Look. It just makes my whole day just terrible. So here are a few stress relievers that you could use when you're in school because I get it.
Ms. Williams:Class, friends, sports, the pressures of life right? So stress reliever number one take a deep breath I know it sounds like oh that's nothing but I promise you it will slow a lot of things down. Breathe like you're smelling a flower or a nice perfume not a stinky one a nice one. Breathe in breathe out do it about three times it helps. Next a good stress, reliever move your body move your body that means if you want to stretch go for a walk I don't know dance to your favorite song hey I'm not judging let me know I'll come we could do a little one two little five six seven eight two.
Ms. Williams:Move your body great great stress reliever and then one of my favorites talk it out. A lot of times when people are stressed they hold it in they bottle it up and then next thing you know they erupting like a volcano because they didn't held it in and they just they haven't talked to anyone. Find a friend, a parent, a teacher, counselor. Hello? Me.
Ms. Williams:Yes, find somebody who you feel comfortable with sharing whatever it is on your mind. Okay, it could even be a coach. I know a lot of, students are really close to their coaches find someone you can just relieve your stress with talk about I promise you it helps it will just do numbers getting that off your chest alright so let's just do a quick recap step number one Okay, clean up. Write it down. Step number two: Balance.
Ms. Williams:Learn to take a break, know your limits. And final step, step number three: Stress relievers. Take those deep breaths, move your body and talk it out. Okay? These three tips are going to help you.
Ms. Williams:It's the secret to surviving and thriving in school. Alright? So I want to leave you guys with one last challenge. I want you to pick one of these tips and give it a try and you will notice how it's going to make your school day so much easier. Alright guys, so again, Williams, your favorite school counselor here to help you survive and thrive here at the Honor Roll.
Mrs. Quintero:Well, thank you, Ms. Williams. You know, those, tips that you gave the students actually work for parents as well. Absolutely. When you were talking about having all your things ready before you go to bed.
Mrs. Quintero:Even as a parent, I had everybody's lunchbox already packed, backpacks lined up at the door, you know, those kind of things. I think the parents can take that too with their big old calendar and I'm sure they've got kids and having to plan where they're going every single day. Alarms. Yes, on your phone. I have alarms going off all day.
Ms. Williams:Annoying but necessary.
Mrs. Quintero:And stress relievers. We all need those stress relievers to, you know, really balance our day and get us going so that we're not, like, stressed.
Ms. Williams:At all. Because when we're not stressed, we're such better humans. Less cranky.
Mrs. Quintero:Ms. Williams, you did an awesome job.
Ms. Williams:Thank We
Mrs. Quintero:appreciate everything you do for us at the Honor Rolls.
Ms. Williams:I love Honor Roll.
