Labour's ISA reforms have been confirmed, bringing the biggest shake-up to ISAs in years.
From April 2027, the Cash ISA allowance will be cut to £12,000, while cash held inside a Stocks and Shares ISA could face a new 22% tax on the interest it earns.
So what exactly is changing? Who will be affected? And will these reforms really encourage more people to invest, or simply make ISAs more complicated?
In this episode of Investing Unlocked Extra, Georgie Frost is joined by Investors' Chronicle personal finance and funds writer Helen Kirrane to explain the new rules, separate fact from speculation and explore what they could mean for savers, investors and the UK economy.
They discuss:
- The confirmed Labour ISA reforms and why the government says they're needed
- How the new Cash ISA limit will work
- Why cash held in a Stocks and Shares ISA could now be taxed
- What the changes mean for money market funds
- Whether the reforms will encourage investing or create unintended consequences
- Why the government wants more of our savings invested in UK businesses
- The practical steps ISA holders should consider before the new rules take effect
Whether you're a seasoned investor or simply trying to understand what these changes mean for your own savings, this episode explains the new ISA rules in plain English.
