BARRIEBarrie Stafford was the popular long-time Equipment Manager for the
Edmonton Oilers organization during the team's dynasty years, earning five Stanley Cup championships before his retirement after more than three decades. Barrie's contributions to the game were honoured when his name was added to the wall of Honour at the
Hockey Hall of Fame in
Toronto. Barrie was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2011, undergoing a stem cell transplant and chemotherapy. Barrie is active with the
Cure Cancer Foundation, helping out with charity golf tournaments and other events over the years.
BRYN and DAVEJust a couple of sportscasters from Canada who’ve dealt with cancer, beaten it back and now push forward living the best life possible. They can’t say it’s been easy, because it hasn’t been. But they’ve kept a great attitude and now continue to surge along doing things they love- including talking about sports.
Bryn lost his whole stomach to cancer while Dave dealt with throat cancer. But here they are… both trying to do something positive, to shine a light on the sports people who’ve taken on cancer, getting right back to a regular lifestyle.
We recognize not every cancer story has a happy ending, but there are many people who’ve survived the dark days, amazingly have come out smiling, realizing there’s still lots of life ahead of them! PLUS they’re more than happy to share their story and their sports career with you.
We both want this podcast to be where you see hope, positivity and many more things.
WHY THIS PODCAST?We recognize not every cancer story has a happy ending, but the goal of the podcast is to highlight the inspiring stories of athletes, sports executives and media personalities who have faced and beaten cancer, or are continuing the fight. We believe that by sharing these stories, we can provide hope and inspiration to those who have been affected by this disease.
