Isaiah Syle is a records analyst. He is precise. He is thorough. He is, as his supervisor once told him, almost mechanical in his attention to detail.
He does not know why he is at Darnmoor.
That is what he tells them.
In this case file, Isaiah describes a new element introduced to his treatment — a room he has not seen before, lower in the building, where the floor feels different underfoot. A room with a mirror. The first he encountered at Darnmoor, where all reflective surfaces have otherwise been made opaque.
Another patient, Aldous, is already there. He has been at Darnmoor for a considerable while. He does not look at his own reflection. He offers Isaiah one piece of advice.
That night, Isaiah sleeps without dreams for the first time since his arrival.
In the morning, a name is gone.
He is not alarmed.
