Making Bricks Without Straw

As the Israelites are enslaved in Egypt in Exodus 5, Pharaoh responds to Moses’ pleas for their release by eliminating their resources and imposing greater burdens on their labor. They find themselves charged to make bricks from straw - overwhelmed, anxious, and left with no time or energy to clearly remember or reflect on the promises of God. In our day, we are similarly told to make bricks without straw as we are told to build our identities without any standard or framework for truth rooted in a loving and just Creator.
