People, Planet, Progress

For the May 13th Climate Report, we started in Kern County, CA, where 90% of the state’s natural gas, 70% of the state’s oil, and 25% of its renewable energy comes from…and thousands more oil wells are being planned. Next we talk about the expected changes to the US way of life as we address climate change, including eventually having every community served by electric US Mail trucks.

After hanging out in CA and the US, we leapt the pond and visited the UK to talk about amazing new legislation that will enhance appliance efficiency and require certain manufacturers to offer spare parts that can extend the life of some appliances by 10 years. From there, we launch into the stratosphere, which new research shows is shrinking due to climate change and CO2 emissions. What could this affect? Satellites, worldwide GPS, and radio communication.

To cap it off, we close with a thoughtful opinion piece written by William J. Ripple, climate scientist and author of the World Scientists’ “Warning of Climate Emergency,” regarding needing more than the current political promises.
