Many Christians treat our faith like a golden ticket into heaven. We believe in the gospel and put our trust in Jesus as our savior, but the idea of intimately knowing God seems unattainable. So we hold onto our faith like a golden ticket and settle, putting off the idea of knowing God until we get to heaven. But if that’s the case, then what value is there in this life? In our passage today, Jesus is going to unpack how we are to live present in this life (the now) while also setting our expectations on eternity (the not yet).
