धीरः रघुपतिसिंहः

राणाप्रतापस्य सामन्तराजः रघुपतिसिंहः कदाचित् अकबरसैन्यात् पराजयं प्राप्य अरण्यम् आश्रितवान् । कदाचित् अस्वस्थः पुत्रं द्रष्टुं यदा रघुपतिसिंहः अगच्छत् तदा मोगलसैनिकाः तं गृहीतवन्तः । पुत्रदर्शनाय अवसरः दीयताम् इति सेनापतिम् आकाशवर्माणम् अपृच्छत् । रजपूताः विश्वासघातं न कुर्वन्ति इति जानन् आकाशवर्मा रघुपतिसिंहाय पुत्रदर्शनाय अनुज्ञां दत्तवान् । ततः आकाशवर्मणः बन्धनं जातम् । रघुपतिसिंहः एतत् ज्ञात्वा मां कारागारे स्थापयन्तु इति निवेदितवान् । रघुपतिसिंहस्य धैर्यं, मित्रप्रीतिं च, आकाशवर्मणः दयासम्पन्नगुणं च दृष्ट्वा अकबरः तयोः बन्धविमुक्ततां कृतवान् ।

Raghupati Singh, a feudal chief under Rana Pratap, was once defeated by Akbar’s army and took refuge in the forest. Later, when he went to see his ailing son, Mughal soldiers captured him. He requested the commander, Akash Varma, to allow him to meet his son. Knowing that Rajputs never betray trust, Akash Varma permitted it. As a result, Akash Varma himself was imprisoned. When Raghupati Singh learned of this, he declared, “Let me be imprisoned instead.” Witnessing Raghupati Singh’s courage and loyalty, and Akash Varma’s compassion, Akbar released both of them.
