Brian L Gibson is a retired veteran who served 26 years in the US military as a combat medic and founder of Project Diehard. Brian continues to serve his country today by fighting the war on veteran suicide. Brian shares his experiences after leaving the military as someone who almost became a suicidal statistic and his journey to prospering. He created Project Diehard to assist his brothers and sisters in getting the help they need in coping with the stress and difficulties experienced while transitioning from active duty military to civilian life. He has a dream to end veteran suicide and homelessness and plans to make this dream a reality. AnnaMaria and Brian discuss the battlefield that soldiers come home to, the fight for life after war, and veterans’ struggles that can lead to suicide. Brian emphasizes that many veterans suffer from a lack of support and resources, including finding housing and a job. “In the depth of despair, you need the hand-holding; you need that little encouragement because it may be a little encouragement that makes a big difference.”
