In this introduction to our new series, Stu Crawshaw takes us back to Moses' final sermon in Deuteronomy 4, and makes the case that the Ten Commandments are not a burden imposed by a distant, demanding God, but the shape of life for a people God has already saved.
Three things stand out: the law is Israel's wisdom before a watching world, God is known by his word not his image, and the law can't be forgotten without losing its power. And underneath all of it — the law is there to show us we can't keep it. Which means we need a saviour. Which means we need Jesus.
