Christ Alone | 1 Corinthians 1:10–17 | Bek Stevens
This week on the Newlife Podcast, Bek Stevens continues our 1 Corinthians series by unpacking 1 Corinthians 1:10–17.
Paul confronts the divisions that had begun to form within the church as people aligned themselves with different leaders rather than with Christ. His call is clear: our faith is in Christ alone. We are not called to use Jesus' name to elevate ourselves, our preferences, or our allegiances above others. Instead, we are united by the gospel and find our identity together in Him.
Bek also explores how subtly pride can creep into our hearts. We can begin to elevate ourselves above our brothers and sisters in Christ, believing our convictions, ministries, leaders, or preferences make us superior. At the same time, we often idolise things that are inherently good—leaders, traditions, theology, spiritual gifts, or ministries—and allow them to take the place that belongs to Christ alone. When good things become ultimate things, pride grows, unity is fractured, and division follows.
Join us as we discover the freedom of fixing our eyes on Jesus, cultivating humility, and becoming a church united by the cross rather than divided by our idols.
