church. 00:06:06.260 --> 00:06:09.680 We saw that Jesus warns and speaks to this. 00:06:09.940 --> 00:06:11.540 Paul warns and speaks to this. 00:06:11.800 --> 00:06:13.840 Peter warns and speaks to this. 00:06:14.120 --> 00:06:16.080 Jude warns and speaks to this. 00:06:16.360 --> 00:06:21.640 Multiple times throughout scripture, what we begin to see are the heresies, the false doctrines, 00:06:21.900 --> 00:06:23.220 and how to deal with that. 00:06:23.340 --> 00:06:27.380 And what we find is that the false doctrines, they invade the church. 00:06:27.680 --> 00:06:33.620 And when false doctrine invades the church, the gospel message itself is attacked. 00:06:34.120 --> 00:06:45.080 And so Paul is calling Titus to not only be the leader and to call qualified leaders, but 00:06:45.080 --> 00:06:49.480 to also make sure that these leaders are ready for the fight that is there. 00:06:49.660 --> 00:06:55.160 And then in these transitioning here in chapter 2, we're going to get some application parts. 00:06:55.480 --> 00:07:01.400 And he begins this transition by saying, but as for you, Titus, let's make sure that this 00:07:01.400 --> 00:07:02.160 begins with you. this is important, that sound doctrine, lots of times we hear this word doctrine, we 00:07:15.460 --> 00:07:22.100 hear the word theology, and we begin to think of right and correct thinking, or right apostle of Jesus Christ, for the 00:07:50.100 --> 00:07:57.220 sake of the faith of God's elect, and their knowledge of the truth, so for the sake of the faith 00:07:57.220 --> 00:08:04.160 that they believed, and then they knew, so that it accords with godliness. 00:08:05.180 --> 00:08:09.780 And yes, godliness is the way that we think, but godliness is the way we speak, godliness 00:08:09.780 can tell you the author was, I can tell you the name, I can tell you when it was written, I can tell you a couple things about it. 00:13:41.600 --> 00:13:55.400 But to develop the heart, but to develop the heart to transform and to being the one who knows this, who lives this, who desires this is foreign. 00:13:58.440 --> 00:14:08.060 So Paul writes to Titus, but as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. 00:14:10.060 --> 00:14:21.980 that it's who you are in Christ Jesus and that it's what you know and that it works through the power of the Holy Spirit to produce godliness some different kinds of doctrine here. 00:15:49.820 --> 00:16:00.080 Titus 2.2, older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-control, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. 00:16:00.260 this is marked by, catch this, fellas, self-controlled faithfulness embodied by love. 00:16:24.260 --> 00:16:37.280 The older we get, the more, Paul says to Titus, that your older men should be marked grumpy old men, right? 00:17:15.420 --> 00:17:16.780 That's the whole premise of the movie. 00:17:17.480 --> 00:17:18.360 These two guys are grumpy. 00:17:18.440 --> 00:17:19.240 They don't get along. 00:17:25.320 They're not thinking about others. 00:17:25.320 --> 00:17:31.240 And the truth is, though, oftentimes, apart from Christ and maturity of the Spirit, this is who we become. 00:17:33.000 --> 00:17:44.660 The more we're left with our sin, the more the stereotype of the movie falls into actuality in our lives. 00:17:45.660 --> 00:17:51.200 The older I get, quite honestly, the less that I care. 00:17:53.840 --> 00:17:57.100 And unfortunately, we wear it as a badge of honor. 00:17:58.580 --> 00:18:03.580 But that can, that's opposite of what the gospel teaches. 00:18:05.100 --> 00:18:06.540 You see, here's what the gospel says. 00:18:08.100 --> 00:18:13.740 Older men, younger men, older women, younger women. 00:18:14.820 --> 00:18:34.820 Here's how the gospel works, that the longer I live, the more I walk with Jesus, the more I walk with Jesus, the more I should look, act, think, respond, and speak like Jesus. 00:18:37.460 --> 00:18:45.400 Not grumpy old men, but older, matured, Christ-like followers. 00:18:46.940 --> 00:18:48.820 This is who we're called to be. 00:18:50.160 --> 00:18:56.480 When Paul defines maturity of the church at Ephesus, here's what he says. 00:18:56.480 --> 00:19:11.180 So that we may no longer be children tossed to and fro from the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness and deceitful schemes. 00:19:11.640 --> 00:19:20.540 Rather, he says, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head into Christ. 00:19:20.960 --> 00:19:27.360 So Paul says, like, spiritually speaking, like, stop being little children. 00:19:28.900 --> 00:19:34.460 Stop being tossed to and fro like the waves, but grow. 00:19:35.240 --> 00:19:41.780 Grow up, mature, become a follower of Christ, there's a pursuit of maturity that we go after. 00:20:24.340 --> 00:20:25.440 Now, older women. 00:20:26.900 --> 00:20:33.360 And again, I'm not speaking directly to anyone here directly with that title, but pieces we can draw. 00:20:34.360 --> 00:20:43.040 Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. 00:20:44.440 --> 00:20:46.020 They are to teach what is good. 00:20:47.540 --> 00:20:49.320 We see this, we see the doctrine of reverence. 00:20:50.640 --> 00:20:54.280 Paul addresses three areas with these ladies. 00:21:02.920 --> 00:21:04.180 Here's what Paul's getting to. 00:21:04.460 --> 00:21:10.820 Here's what Paul is asking when we use this word reverence and why we use this word in the doctrine of
