Be More Now host Blake More interviews Eileen Buckholtz, longtime NSA computer scientist and author of Queens of Code: Inspiring True Stories from NSA’s Computing Women.
Buckholtz tells us that some of the NSA’s most important early computing breakthroughs were made by women who were working under such strict secrecy that even their families didn’t know what they did. More than 50 years later, their stories are finally being told. Join us for a rare look inside the secretive NSA and the women who helped make it run.
Eileen Buckholtz is an author, a Master Computer Scientist, President of Technology Concepts, Inc., and was a professor of IT courses for 17 years. Eileen was drawn to computing at first byte when she took her initial computer course at Ohio State University, later graduating with one of the first undergraduate degrees in Computer and Information Science in the country. She earned her MS degree in Computer Science at the University of Maryland and her CIO certificate from the National Defense University. She was a Brookings Legis Fellow in 1998 working for Senator John Kerry. For over thirty years, she had an exciting and distinguished career as a Master Computer Scientist with the National Security Agency, working on cutting-edge technology.
As an author, Eileen has created or co-authored over forty books for adults, young adults, and children. Her Micro Adventure series (with Ruth Glick, published by Scholastic, Inc) combine her computer expertise and love of storytelling with fast-paced adventure and humor. Her publications have helped kids of all ages learn to program and have fun with early PCs.
