He was born August 9, 1979 — which, as it turns out, is also the anniversary of Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant at Shea Stadium in 1980. From there: the 1979 champions across all four major sports (Pirates, Steelers, Sonics, Canadiens), a trip through the 1979 Detroit sports wasteland (Lions going 2-14 to draft Billy Sims), and why Billy Sims' knee injury at the Metrodome in 1984 is the reason Barry Sanders ever put on a Lions uniform.
