Jay played juniors (WHL) as a forward from 1994-1998; during that time, he was drafted during the 1997 NHL Entry Draft in the ninth round by the Boston Bruins. It wasn’t long until Jay made his debut with the Boston Bruins during the 1998-1999 season and went on to win the AHL Calder Cup championship with Providence in 1999. He continued suiting up for Boston and Providence over the next few years until 2001, then later played for various teams in the AHL, winning the Calder Cup championships with the Houston Aeros in 2003 and the Milwaukee Admirals in 2004. In 2005, Jay traveled overseas for the next several years, making appearances in the DEL (Germany) from 2005-2009, the EBEL from 2008-2009, and the EIHL in 2010 when he would help lead the Nottingham Panthers to capture the EIHL championship title. After winning the EIHL championship, Jay decided to hang his skates up, officially retiring in 2010.
