प्रकाशः अन्धकारं प्रति गच्छेत्

कदाचित् कृष्णः विविधैः सुन्दरैः आभरणैः आत्मानम् अलङ्कुर्वन् आसीत् । यः कदापि बाह्यालङ्कारे आसक्तिं न दर्शयति सः अद्य कथं बाह्यालङ्कारे विशेषास्थावान् इति चिन्तयन् सारथिः दारुकः कारणं पृच्छति । तदा कृष्णः वदति 'दुर्योधनं द्रष्टुं गच्छामि । बाह्याडम्बरदर्शने तस्य विशेषासक्तिः । अतः तं प्रभावयितुम् अयं वेशः' इति । पुनः दारुकः वदति यत् 'भवता किमर्थं तत्र गम्यते ? सः एव अत्र आनाय्यताम्' इति । तदा कृष्णः वदाति 'अन्धकारः प्रकाशदिशि न गच्छति । प्रकाशः एव अन्धकारदिशि गच्छेत्' इति ।

Once, Krishna was adorning himself with various beautiful ornaments. His charioteer, Daruka, was surprised because Krishna usually showed no interest in external decoration. Wondering about the reason, Daruka asked Krishna why he was so focused on appearance that day. Krishna replied, “I am going to meet Duryodhana. He is very fond of outward grandeur, so I must dress this way to influence him.” Daruka then asked, “Why should you go to him? Let him come to you instead.” Krishna smiled and said, “Darkness never moves toward light. It is light that must go toward darkness.”
