Reading 2 Kings Chapter 17

The last king of Israel, Hoshea, attempts to rebel against Assyrian subjugation and is put in prison. Then the people of Israel are carried away captive and other people are brought to live in the land. Yahweh explains again why this has happened. When the foreign people are first living in Israel, Yahweh sends lions to get their attention. They ask for a priest to tell them how to appease the god of the land, but fail to either fully understand or choose not to worship only him. They still do things like burn their children to their gods. Even though Yahweh promised to deliver those who follow him from their enemies, they didn't listen and neither did their children.
