शूरा रत्नावली

जयसलमेरस्य राज्ञः रतनसिंहस्य पुत्री रत्नावली शौर्येण अप्रतिमा । कदाचित् अल्लावुद्दीनस्य सेनापतिः मल्लिकाफुरः रतनसिंहं पराजेतुं ससैन्यम् आगतः । राजकुमारी रत्नावली सैन्यस्य नेतृत्वम् ऊढवती । मल्लिकाफुरः शत्रुहस्तगतः अभविष्यत् । किन्तु कथञ्चित् आत्मानं रक्षन् रणरङ्गात् पलायत । सः कुतन्त्रम् आश्रित्य दुर्गस्य अन्तः गमनाय मार्गं दर्शयितुं कस्मैचित् निर्धनाय वृद्धाय प्रभूतं धनं दत्तवान् । किं सः वृद्धः मार्गं दर्शयति ? सः जयसलमेरस्य राज्ञः द्रोहं करोति ? इति कौतुकेन कथाम् इमां शृण्वन्तु ।

In Jaisalmer, King Ratansingh’s daughter Ratnavali was unmatched in courage. Once, Alauddin’s general Malik Kafur came with his army to defeat Ratansingh. Princess Ratnavali herself led the forces, and Malik Kafur was nearly captured. Somehow he escaped from the battlefield. Later, he resorted to trickery, giving a poor old man a large sum of money to show him a secret way into the fort. Whether that old man betrays Jaisalmer’s king or not is the suspense of this tale.
