दीनसेवा एव देवीसेवा

पूर्वं कश्चन सन्तानहीनः राजा आसीत् । अथ कदाचित् दुःखम् अनुभवन्तं राजानं 'राजधानीतः अनतिदूरे कश्चन वटवृक्षः अस्ति इति मन्त्री अवदत् । तत्र वसन्ती देवी पूज्येत तर्हि भवतः इष्टम् अवश्यं सिद्ध्येत्' इति मन्त्री अवदत् । ततः राजा कथं देव्याः पूजनं करोति, कथं दीनसेवा एव देवीसेवा इति ज्ञातं तेन इत्येव कथायाः वस्तु वर्तते ।

Long ago, there was a king who had no children and was very sad. One day, his minister told him about a banyan tree near the capital where a goddess was believed to live. The minister said that if the king worshipped the goddess, his wish would be fulfilled. The story tells how the king worshipped the goddess and eventually learned that serving the poor and needy is the true worship of God.

What is बालमोदिनी?
