What do we do all day? Welcome to the Know the Difference Minute for Wednesday, April 6th. I won’t bury the lede. Most white-collar workers only spend about 1/3rd of their day doing what they were hired to do. That’s from a new survey of over 10,000 workers. It might not be our fault. Workday’s have become complex. So complex that we spend more time just managing the work. More than half our day is spent on ‘work coordination’. Stuff like following up, searching for information, and communicating with coworkers. The survey says time spent on strategy and planning has declined to under 10%. Blame the complexity of various teams not getting on the same page. The data also says leaders have been forced to be more reactive during the pandemic. And, too many meetings. In the last 2 years, meetings increased by 70%. I’m Dave Spano from Annex Wealth Management. That is your Know the Difference Minute.
