Open Up & Pour

In our latest wine confessional, Janet chats, to Bonnie Yeung from the Yang Sing in Manchester’s China Town and her cousin Garry Lui, who works for Reserve Wines in Didsbury. They talk about family ties, why they love wine and how they’ve both had to adapt their business practices during the lockdown period - whilst maintaining the personal touch. There is also a surprise zoom ‘appearance’ from Bonnie's very young son Alex – not on the wine just yet!

Show Notes

Bonny Yeung is the third generation of the Yang Sing family – an iconic Manchester restaurant serving people for over 40 years.  She is the Marketing Director and has completely re-vamped the restaurant wine list to include great wines to match with the competing flavours of their fabulous Cantonese food.  During the lockdown period, they continue to deliver food and wine across Greater Manchester via a WhatsApp service. Garry Lui is the Manager of Reserve Wines in Didsbury.  The business has grown from one shop, founded by Kate Goodman in 2003 to five sites around the North West. Reserve has been operating a busy home delivery service online with limited opening times at the shop and outdoor at Altrincham Market.  Bonnie & Gary are cousins, both growing up in a food and drink environment – so you could say it is in their blood!

What is Open Up & Pour?

Open Up & Pour is a podcast featuring interesting people who are enthusiastic about wines and spirits and who know a good thing when they taste it. In each episode the founder of the People’s Choice Drinks Awards, Janet Harrison, chats to one or two guests, from industry insiders to regular punters, to find out what it is they love about their favourite tipple.

The theme song, King of Wine, kindly supplied by The Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band. Open Up & Pour is a Dap Dip production.
