Shalom and welcome to our daily Rambam thought. Today, we glean wisdom from the timeless words of Maimonides, the Rambam, from his work Mishneh Torah, the Book of Knowledge, the Laws of Repentance, Chapter 2, Law 1. In this passage, Rambam teaches us about the power of free will. He states that every individual has the capacity to be as righteous as Moses or as wicked as Jeroboam. What an empowering thought! We are not bound by destiny or predetermined to follow a certain path. Rather, each of us holds the reins to our own moral and spiritual journey. This concept is highly relatable to our daily lives. It teaches us responsibility for our actions and decisions. When we find ourselves at a crossroads, it's our choice which direction to take. We can't blame our circumstances or upbringing for the choices we make today. It's in our hands to choose goodness and righteousness. Let this teaching encourage you to exercise your free will wisely. Every moment, every decision, is an opportunity to shape your destiny. Choose a path that leads to growth, kindness, and connection with the Divine. Thank you for joining today’s reflection. May it inspire you to make choices that bring light into the world.
