Tobiloba Akibo is a Landscape Architect in Nigeria. For her, this work gives access to resolving some of the injustice she has seen and experienced. Advocating for, and working towards, environmental justice has become a purposeful direction in her life. In this episode, we talk about the diverse landscapes in Nigeria, the current opportunities and crisis that exist, and a passionate discussion on why advocacy matters.
Professional Landscape Architects are far and few between in Nigeria. Hence Tobiloba has created Our Landscape Nigeria to bring more people into the profession. Simply being put, although there are positions to fill for conversation, food production, planning and design in the country, there are not enough Landscape Architects to do so. Without such stewards of the environment, this could potentially have bigger consequences to the landscapes in the country.
This is the first of a two part conversation where she virtually takes us to Nigeria and its diverse landscapes, the current opportunities and crisis that exist, and a passionate discussion on why advocacy matters.
