Building The Future Show - Radio / TV / Podcast

Helped influence the Government to procure national motorways instead of the town by-passes commissioned by the National Roads Authority in 1999.

Helped expedite the M50 Motorway and save €400m. This included its realignment: a) near Sandyford Village – so that the village was not enclosed by motorway type roads; b) away from sensitive areas of Finglas, Ballymun and Santry. This enabled this section to open sooner - it was to open 10 years after the Tallaght to Sandyford section but instead was opened 5 years before it; c) at Redcow to remove the last set of lights during its latest upgrade.

Played a key role in the Government decision for a Dublin Metro - assembled a Japanese consortium and in 2000 presented to the Cabinet Committee for PPPs a proposal. After the meeting the Cabinet pledged to proceed with a metro.

In 2003 presented plans to the Government Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport on how the cost of a metro could be reduced and also instigated the visit of a Spanish delegation to them. The Committee Report noted my 'undoubted knowledge and many skills that are appropriate for the building of a Metro' and that my 'extensive knowledge could be harnessed for the development of the Dublin Metro system'.
