The growth ratio: is the grass growing faster, or slower, than expected?

The turfgrass growth ratio takes the actual growth (#ClipVol) and expresses it in relation to how much growth is expected, given the temperatures. I explain how I didn't grasp the utility and elegance of this at first, but now I do.

Grass growth varies by season. And a common question is "how much should I expect my grass to be growing?" The turfgrass growth ratio, conceived of by Jason Haines, is a way to express the actual growth in a seasonally-adjusted way.
