मन्दहासपूर्णं तत् मुखम्

कञ्चित् ग्रामम् आगतवते भगवते बुद्धाय तत्रत्याः जनाः सर्वविधां व्यवस्थां कल्पितवन्तः । तत्र कश्चित्  जयः नाम बालः सर्वं महता कुतूहलेन अपश्यत् ।  बुद्धस्य मदहासपूर्णं मुखं बालस्य मनः अहरत् । बुद्धस्य उपदेशः निरन्तरं प्रवृतः । प्रस्थानोद्यताय बुद्धाय जनाः किमपि उपायनं यथाशक्ति समर्पयन्तः आसन् । सः बालः किमपि दातुम् अशक्नुवन् अञ्जलिमितां मृत्तिकां गृहीत्वा बुद्धम् अर्पितवान् ।  बालेन उपायनीकृतां मृत्तिकां स्पृष्ट्वा तं बालम् आशिषा अनुगृहीतवान् । सः एव बालः जयः अग्रिम जन्मनि 'अशोक' नाम्ना ख्यातः । कलिङ्गयुद्धानन्तरं युद्धात् जुगुप्सितः सन् बुद्धस्य तत्त्वानां प्रसाराय आत्मानं समर्पितवान् सः ।

When Lord Buddha visited a certain village, the villagers made all kinds of arrangements for him. Among them, a boy named Jaya observed everything with great curiosity. The serene and joyful face of Buddha captivated the boy's mind. Buddha's teachings continued uninterrupted. When Buddha was about to depart, the villagers offered him gifts as per their abilities. The boy, unable to offer anything else, took a handful of soil and presented it to Buddha. Touching the soil offered by the boy, Buddha blessed him. That same boy, Jaya, in his next birth became known as Ashoka. After the Kalinga War, disgusted with war, he dedicated himself to spreading Buddha's teachings.

What is बालमोदिनी?

सम्भाषणसन्देशः इति संस्कृतमासिकपत्रिका (https://sambhashanasandesha.in) । एतस्यां पत्रिकायां प्रकाशिताः लेखाः, कथाः, बालकथाः, वार्ताः इत्यादिकं सर्वम् अपि सरलसंस्कृतेन एव प्रकाश्यते । तत्रत्याः “बालमोदिनी”नामिकाः बालकथाः अत्र प्रसार्यन्ते । अतः अस्याः शृङ्खलायाः नाम अपि “बालमोदिनी” एव । लघु गात्रं, सरला भाषा च कथानां विशेषः । प्रत्येकं कथा काञ्चित् नीतिं बोधयति । बालकथाः आबालवृद्धं सर्वेषां प्रियाः । संस्कृतेन ताः श्रोतुम् उपलब्धाः भवन्तु इति एषः प्रयत्नः श्रोतृभ्यः अवश्यं रोचेत इति विश्वासः । संस्कृतक्षेत्रे संस्कृतेन पॉड्कास्ट् क्रियमाणाः एताः प्रप्रथमाः कथाः इति सगौरवम् उद्घोष्यते ।
