Here at TSHE we have an ongoing fascination with the detective procedural genre, and this time we’re examining that staple character, the disarming sleuth. This could be a kindly old lady, somebody with a mental illness, a precocious child, or a fussy British man, but the one thing they have in common is that nobody expects them to solve the crime. Along the way we detour into murder trendlines, the importance of a top-tier mustache, Jessica Fletcher’s sex life, and a lot of talk about Frasier and Gilmore Girls (neither of which have murders, that we know of).
