पक्षिभाषाभिज्ञः राजा देवदत्तः राजकुमारेण सह स्वभवनस्य वाटिकायां निवसत्या चटकया सह सम्भाषणं करोति स्म । कदाचित् चटका यदा आहारार्थं गता आसीत् तदा राजकुमारस्य मनसि दुर्विचारः उत्पन्नः, येन सः चटकशावकं मारितवान् । राजकुमारः‌ एव स्वशावकं मारितवान् इति विचिन्त्य सा चटका चञ्च्वा राजकुमारस्य नेत्रयोः नाशं कृतवती । स्वपुत्रस्य राजकुमारस्य दोषं ज्ञात्वा यद्यपि सः राजा चटकायाः अपराधं क्षान्तवान् तथापि परस्परविरोधः यत्र स्यात् तत्र वासः अनुचितः इति मत्वा चटका देशान्तरं गन्तुम् इष्टवती ।
