The ‘Permanências Efémeras’ residency programme welcomes Giulia Bellinetti, coordinator of the Future Materials Lab and Natural Research Department at the Jan van Eyck Academy, for a conversation on ecological materials, institutional transformation and the challenges of sustainable transitions.
Starting from her work at the intersection of contemporary art, ecology and research, this episode explores the cultural, economic and structural barriers that continue to hinder the widespread adoption of alternative materials in architecture, construction and creative practices. The discussion reflects on the importance of recovering material knowledge, fostering collaboration across disciplines and creating new frameworks for experimentation and learning.
Throughout the episode, we examine the role of initiatives such as the Future Materials Bank in making knowledge accessible, supporting innovation and connecting practitioners working with biomaterials, circular systems and regenerative approaches.
