Day 110 — Eutychus Falls (Acts 20:7-12) | August 13

It was Sunday evening in Troas. The believers had gathered in a third-floor room. The lamps were burning, the air was thick, and Paul had a ship to catch in the morning and a lot to say before he left. So he kept preaching past midnight. A young man named Eutychus, probably a tired working-class teenager, found a window sill for some fresh air and lost the fight against sleep. He fell three stories and was picked up dead. Luke was a physician. He knew the difference. Paul came down the stairs, threw himself on the boy like Elijah and Elisha had done, and announced his life was in him. Then he went back upstairs and finished the meeting. The miracle is striking. So is what Luke chooses to emphasize. Grace doesn't shame people who are exhausted. It restores them.
