This lecture will do a deep dive into 1 Corinthians 1, exploring Christian engagement in the public space. It will argue that this rich biblical paradigm for cultural engagement should be at the heart of contemporary Christian interventions into the most important public debates in our late modern society.

Speaker:
Dr Christopher Watkin is ARC Future Fellow and Associate Professor of European Languages (French) at Monash University, Melbourne. He is the author of a number of books in modern French philosophy including Difficult Atheism (2011), French Philosophy Today (2016) and Michel Serres: Figures of Thought (2021). He has also published widely on the relationship between theology, philosophy and culture, including Biblical Critical Theory: How the Bible's Unfolding Story Makes Sense of Modern Life and Culture (2022), named the 2023 Australian Christian Book of the Year.
