First Burleson Sunday Messages

This sermon opens a new series called Home Values, which looks at nine biblical principles for marriage and family life. Pastor Chris begins in Genesis 2:18–25, showing that marriage and family were not humanity's idea but God's design from the very beginning of creation, and that His design was declared very good.

The main takeaway is that while sin has broken and distorted God's original design, God is a God of redemption who can take broken people and broken marriages and make something beautiful out of them, much like the art of mending broken pottery with gold. This message is especially encouraging for anyone who feels like their family doesn't fit a perfect mold — single adults, single parents, blended families, or those carrying wounds from the past — reminding them that God's grace and presence are for them too.

The sermon also unpacks three marks of God's very good design for marriage: it is a relationship of priority (the leave and cleave principle), a relationship of covenant rather than contract, and a relationship of intimacy marked by openness and trust, closing with an invitation to let Christ's love fill and flow through every marriage and family.
