at a couple parables this morning, okay? 00:05:33.640 --> 00:05:36.540 So let's start Luke 15 verse 1. 00:05:36.620 --> 00:05:36.860 It says, 00:05:37.080 --> 00:05:40.940 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to him, 00:05:41.200 --> 00:05:42.120 him being Jesus. 00:05:42.880 --> 00:05:45.180 And the Pharisees and scribes grumbled, 00:05:45.360 --> 00:05:49.380 saying this man receives sinners and eats with them. 00:05:50.040 --> 00:05:52.200 And so I want us to look at this morning, 00:05:52.380 --> 00:05:54.580 this dialogue that is going to happen 00:05:54.580 --> 00:05:57.760 as there is a mixture of dichotomy 00:05:57.760 --> 00:06:00.300 of a group of people that's going to be found around Jesus. 00:06:00.720 --> 00:06:02.620 You're going to see Jesus, his followers. 00:06:03.040 --> 00:06:04.240 You're going to see Pharisees. 00:06:04.500 --> 00:06:07.800 You're going to see what is known as tax collectors and sinners. 00:06:07.980 --> 00:06:11.800 And so let's kind of define this group that's there with Jesus. 00:06:12.020 --> 00:06:14.140 You've got the people who are with Jesus, 00:06:14.320 --> 00:06:16.680 who are messing it up, getting it right, 00:06:16.840 --> 00:06:18.020 living in the grace of God. 00:06:18.260 --> 00:06:19.880 So he's going to hand the keys over to 00:06:19.880 --> 00:06:21.380 with the power of the Holy Spirit 00:06:21.380 --> 00:06:22.960 when he ascends into heaven, all right? 00:06:22.980 --> 00:06:25.800 This is the disciples and those closest to him. 00:06:25.920 --> 00:06:27.120 But you've got the Pharisees, 00:06:27.220 --> 00:06:29.820 the Jewish religious leaders are there as well. 00:06:29.920 --> 00:06:31.980 Now, they're the ones who are supposed to be 00:06:31.980 --> 00:06:33.620 on lookout for the Messiah. 00:06:33.900 --> 00:06:35.000 They're missing it. 00:06:35.280 --> 00:06:37.080 And they're so stuck in, 00:06:37.260 --> 00:06:39.440 not only just like following the law of God, 00:06:39.500 --> 00:06:40.480 which is a good thing, 00:06:40.640 --> 00:06:42.840 but following the law that they've decided. 00:06:43.120 --> 00:06:45.920 And their salvation that they're working toward, 00:06:45.980 --> 00:06:46.600 and that's key, 00:06:46.820 --> 00:06:48.540 is not going to be found in the grace of God, 00:06:48.540 --> 00:06:50.080 but they're going to miss salvation 00:06:50.080 --> 00:06:51.740 because it's going to be found for them 00:06:51.740 --> 00:06:52.720 in the works of man. 00:06:52.860 --> 00:06:54.380 And so Pharisees are lost. 00:06:55.340 --> 00:06:56.200 They don't get it. 00:06:56.240 --> 00:06:57.080 They don't understand. 00:06:58.100 --> 00:06:59.200 And then in the room, 00:06:59.300 --> 00:07:01.500 there's two dynamics of people. 00:07:01.900 --> 00:07:04.020 There's the tax collectors, all right? 00:07:04.240 --> 00:07:06.360 Now, they are Jewish men 00:07:06.360 --> 00:07:08.260 who have betrayed their own people 00:07:08.260 --> 00:07:11.040 for wealth as they've partnered with Rome. 00:07:11.200 --> 00:07:14.960 And basically, they raise the funds for Rome 00:07:14.960 --> 00:07:17.800 so that Rome can oppress the Jewish people. 00:07:18.660 --> 00:07:20.320 So they're traitors. 00:07:21.180 --> 00:07:22.080 They're not liked. 00:07:22.160 --> 00:07:23.020 You wouldn't like them. 00:07:23.860 --> 00:07:42.040 --> 00:07:43.660 Now, everybody but Jesus 00:07:43.660 --> 00:07:45.440 is a sinner in the room, all right? 00:07:45.580 --> 00:07:48.600 But when it says sinners in this context, 00:07:48.800 --> 00:07:51.420 we need to know that they're in the room, right, 00:07:51.600 --> 00:07:53.060 is a sketchy group of people. 00:07:53.920 --> 00:07:56.200 Most of the time when it says sinners, 00:07:56.380 --> 00:07:58.140 what we're talking about in Scripture 00:07:58.140 --> 00:07:59.260 is prostitutes. 00:08:00.260 --> 00:08:03.200 So look at the dynamic of the room. 00:08:04.000 --> 00:08:06.580 You see there's the Son of Man, Jesus, 00:08:06.780 --> 00:08:09.540 heading to Jerusalem on His way, 00:08:09.780 --> 00:08:10.980 heading toward the cross. 00:08:11.240 --> 00:08:11.980 And what it will be, 00:08:12.160 --> 00:08:13.180 it's His followers, 00:08:13.560 --> 00:08:14.660 it's Pharisees, 00:08:14.940 --> 00:08:16.180 it's tax collectors, 00:08:16.460 --> 00:08:17.800 it's prostitutes. 00:08:17.960 --> 00:08:20.720 And there's this wild mixture of what is there. 00:08:21.500 --> 00:08:22.840 And what I want you and I, 00:08:22.920 --> 00:08:24.480
