David is made King of Judah while Saul's only son sees his last day.

"The narratives continue from 1 Samuel which ends with the death of Saul at Mt. Gilboa. David is made King of Judah but the chapter shows the bitterness of brothers fighting. The discord with the north is being settled but with the death of their commander Abner. The end of Saul’s only surviving son is described before the throne passes on to David."
