यत् अस्ति तदेव परमप्रियम्

कदाचित् कश्चन भक्तः कस्यचन माहात्मनः कुटीरे एकस्यां रात्रौ वासम् अकरोत् । इष्टिका एव उपाधानम्, जीर्णः च कटः एव शय्या आसीत् तस्य माहात्मनः । एतत् दृष्ट्वा सः भक्तः तस्य कष्टमयं जीवनं दृष्ट्वा उत्तमव्यवस्थां व्यवस्थापयिष्यामि इति अवदत् । किन्तु भगवता यत् दत्तं तत् एव परमप्रियम् इति महात्मा मन्यते स्म । इदानीं यावत् स्यात् तावता एव सः नितरां सन्तुष्टः आसीत् । एतादृशस्य कारणतः एव सः महात्मा जाता इति विचिन्त्य सः भक्तः तं महात्मानं नमस्कृत्य ततः‌ निर्गतवान् ।

Once, a devotee spent a night in the hut of a saint. The saint used bricks as a pillow and an old mat as his bed. Seeing his difficult life, the devotee offered to arrange better facilities. But the saint believed that whatever is given by God is most precious, and he remained completely content with what he had. Realizing that such contentment was the reason for his greatness, the devotee bowed to the saint and departed.
