Chae is on track to become the only Black Certified Professional Midwife in the greater New Orleans area, in this episode Leila and Chae discuss how an accident brought Chae to midwifery, the laws around birth in Louisiana, racism in midwifery, hands-off practice, and so much more.
Bio: Chae Pounds, is a mom to 4, a wife to 1, and a midwife to all. She hails from Memphis, TN by way of Jackson, MS, and currently resides in New Orleans, LA. Chae completed Indie Birth Midwifery School in 2020 and quickly began her midwifery apprenticeship. She is on track to becoming the only Black Certified Professional Midwife in the greater New Orleans area. In the future, Chae hopes to become an IBCLC creating more access to holistic services for her community. Chae is a cloth diaper enthusiast, breastfeeding advocate, and home birth revolutionary. Chae practices and believes in whole, empowered communities.
