Rep. Andy Ogles just said “Muslims don’t belong in America.” That’s not patriotism — that’s straight up white nationalist rhetoric.
The United States was never meant to belong to one religion, one race, or one culture. The Constitution guarantees religious freedom. When politicians start deciding which faiths “belong,” they’re attacking the very foundation of this country.
Let’s be honest about history. The greatest atrocities committed on this land didn’t come from immigrants or religious minorities. They came from systems built to protect white power: slavery, lynchings, Jim Crow segregation, the Trail of Tears, Japanese internment camps, and violent attacks on civil rights.
The hypocrisy is staggering. The same politicians screaming about “protecting America” often stay silent about abuse scandals in their own institutions, the January 6 attack on democracy, and the long history of racial violence in this country.
America does not belong to white Christian nationalists.
It belongs to everyone who lives here and believes in freedom, equality, and democracy.
If someone thinks Muslims don’t belong in America, maybe they should revisit the Constitution — because religious freedom applies to everyone.
