The UK has officially proposed an ambitious plan to radically reshape the future of industry by slashing carbon emissions while seeking to repair the damage done by climate change. In this fight, we all have a part to play - although, it is more likely that the battlefield you and I will be fighting on will be made up primarily of paperwork (leave the beach cleanups to Greenpeace), at least for now.

Reducing our emissions on the scale proposed by the UK government is going to take work regardless, and even more so, a whole lot of accountability. Yes, that means reports, and lots of them; if you have been running a business any time in the past 3 years, then you likely already know what I'm talking about.

Your carbon reporting duties may be a time sink, but they are also essential in the fight against climate change. Chiefly among those duties, there is the annual PPN 06/21 report, but what is that, exactly? And how can we make the arduous reporting process easier? Read on to have all your questions answered!

Procurement Policy Note 06/21 was introduced as part of rolling efforts to achieve net-zero emissions in the UK by 2050 - a mark it is currently on track to hit, according to some analysts. The policy note mandates that all businesses submit an annual carbon reduction plan while also reporting a number of key metrics, including direct and indirect carbon output.

Unfortunately, the process of collecting and reporting this data is both costly and time consuming for small and mid-market businesses, leading to some pushback against the policy at large. Thankfully, the team behind CarbonRP hopes to change that by dramatically streamlining and simplifying the reporting process with their new toolkit.

The accessible Carbon RP platform they have created allows SMEs to input their key emissions metrics into a user-friendly dashboard, taking into account factors like travel, on-site heating, waste production, and more. Their system can then automatically generate complete PPN 06/21 reports, while also assisting in the ongoing tracking and analysis of these metrics. The system covers scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, allowing you to get the full picture of where you currently stand, and what needs to be done to succeed in the future.

In addition to these calculation features, the platform also hosts a directory of helpful carbon reduction resources that will keep your business on track to hit reduction targets and stay compliant with current regulations. Reporting deadlines and other essential regulatory information has also been made prominently visible alongside these resources to further assist in the process.

Crucially, the data and reporting hosted on CarbonRP can then be shared publicly, helping you to maintain your reputation as an eco-friendly member of the business community. You can easily display your emissions data over time, with additional options to publish long-term reduction and offset plans available as well.

The platform is currently available across multiple package options, including a free tier for small companies and individuals. Those who require additional accommodations can also contact the CarbonRP team to arrange for custom package and pricing options beyond what is offered in their standard catalog.
