Just like the new year does, Khu.éex's latest album, Wooch, officially marks the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one.
Khu.éex is an innovative band of musicians, storytellers, activists and artists based out of the pacific northwest featuring members of the Tlingit, Haida and Blackfoot Nations. Formed in 2013 after a chance meeting between Tlingit artist Preston Singletary and the legendary Bernie Worrell (1944-2016), the band continues to expertly weave elements of the traditional and contemporary in new and exciting ways. Khu.éex’ newest album Wooch is the final record made with material that Bernie recorded before his passing, thus providing a bookend to “the Bernie Years”. This week Brett sits down with founding member and guitarist Rob Ludgate for a great discussion about the bands origin and future, sounds and vision. As Rob perfectly summarizes, “with NDN people, it’s always been more like, ‘those who can, teach’.” Enjoy.
