The kind of slippery surface that makes your heart race and your paws wiggle? Well, today we're visiting Frosty Pond, where a peculiar penguin finds himself in a slippery situation. Meet Percy the Penguin. Percy waddled along the icy shore of Frosty Pond, the ice beneath his feet feeling like a cold, smooth slide. He loved the sound the ice made when he tapped it with his beak; it was like little crystal bells ringing in his ears. But most of all, Percy adored the challenge of skipping across the pond's slick surface, feeling the rush of chilly wind ruffle his feathers. "Whee!" he chirped, gliding a few feet before stopping. Percy had always been the fastest penguin on this side of the pond, and he beamed with pride at every successful skip. But today, something felt different. As Percy prepared for his big skip, his wings trembled slightly, and his usually steady flippers felt wobbly and unsure. [slowly] He took a deep breath and started to slide, but... his feet slipped out from under him, sending him tumbling into a pile of soft, powdery snow at the edge. Percy lay there for a moment, his heart thumping, his wings feeling too heavy to lift. "I can't believe I slipped," Percy murmured to himself, his beak touching the ground. He just couldn't understand what went wrong. Percy decided to try again. He stood up, brushed the snow off his feathers, and carefully approached the ice once more. He swung his wings back and forth to gain momentum, feeling a familiar thrill start to build. But as he pushed off, his flippers wobbled uncontrollably, and his balance faltered again. [sigh] "Why can't I do this anymore?" he mumbled, sitting quietly with his flippers in a muddle. [pause] Percy felt an unfamiliar knot in his stomach, realizing that maybe his confidence wasn't quite as sturdy as he thought. As Percy sat pondering, a cheerful voice interrupted his thoughts. "Hiya, Percy! What are you up to?" It was Lenny the Lemming, always scampering and never staying still. "I was just practicing my slides, but... it's not going well," Percy admitted. Lenny bounced around energetically and said, "Practice is just like running in circles. It's not about how you start," he continued, hopping from foot to foot, "it's about how you keep moving!" [hopeful] Percy looked at Lenny, an idea beginning to emerge, even as his wings remained stiff by his sides. Feeling a bit inspired, Percy got up once more. He stretched his wings wide and took a deep breath, focusing on Lenny's words. As he approached the ice this time, Percy moved differently, not worrying about the start or the stumble. Instead, he aimed to keep gliding, letting the thrill carry him forward. His flippers found steady rhythms, and soon he was moving across the pond, each slide a little longer, each glide a little smoother. Percy was almost at the center of the pond when his confidence grew, and he thought to himself, "I can keep going!" Percy finally reached the middle of Frosty Pond, stopping with a confident slide that left him feeling light and accomplished. He looked around the icy expanse with a newfound ease in his stride. He had done it, not by brute force, but by letting himself move with the flow, accepting that slips were part of the journey. The wave of relief washed over him, followed by a feeling of joy stronger than any he'd felt doing his usual skipping. Percy learned that day that it's the movement we keep, not the moment we start, that carries us through. And friends, I think we all find our rhythm by staying with the flow. Thank you so much for listening today, friends. I am Ms. Amy, and remember - here at Rosado Little Lessons, every little story carries a big lesson. Until next time, glide, slide, and grow!
