This past Sunday we reached the namesake story of our series in Genesis 32 as we find Jacob wrestling with God. Heartache, betrayal, deception and running all have seemingly been common themes in Jacob’s life up to this point and yet in this moment where it seems like he is about to face the consequences for a lifetime of poor decisions God meets him. And not from the sky or in the distance but in the most intimate of ways choosing to wrestle with Jacob for as long as it takes. We see a man much like ourselves in need of a moment with God where we wrestle not to display our strength but to reveal weakness. Wrestling, name changes and the continued fulfillment of a promise.
