कदाचित् जम्मूकश्मीरस्य चक्रवर्ती प्रतापसिंहः प्रजानां सुखदुःखानि स्वयं ज्ञातुम् इच्छन् वेषान्तरं धृत्वा देशपर्यटनम् आरब्धवान् । एकदा सः ज्वरेण पीडितस्य युवकस्य सेवां कृत्वा, युवकस्य गम्यस्थानं प्रति अपि प्रापयति । तस्य श्वश्रूः लक्ष्मीमेहता या प्रतापसिंहस्य प्रासादे कर्मकरी आसीत्, महाराजेन साकम् अश्वम् आरुह्य आगतं‌ जामातरं दृष्ट्वा भीता सती 'जामात्रा कृतः अपराधः क्षन्तव्यः । भवान् अस्य देशस्य राजा इति सः न अभिज्ञातवान्' इति अवदत् । तदा राजा अवदत् 'सर्वादौ अहम् अस्मि मानवः । तदनन्तरमेव महाराजत्वं मम । माहाराजेन यथा प्रजाः पाल्येरन् तथैव प्रजाः सेव्येरन् अपि' इति ।

Maharaja Pratap Singh of Jammu and Kashmir wished to know the joys and sorrows of his people directly, so he traveled in disguise. Once, he served a young man suffering from fever and even escorted him to his destination. The young man’s mother-in-law, Lakshmi Mehta, who worked in the royal palace, was frightened when she saw her son-in-law arriving on horseback with the king. She pleaded, “Please forgive him; he did not know you are the ruler of this land.” The king replied, “First of all, I am a human being. Only afterwards am I a Maharaja. Just as a king must protect his subjects, he must also serve them.”

सम्भाषणसन्देशः इति संस्कृतमासिकपत्रिका (https://sambhashanasandesha.in) । एतस्यां पत्रिकायां प्रकाशिताः लेखाः, कथाः, बालकथाः, वार्ताः इत्यादिकं सर्वम् अपि सरलसंस्कृतेन एव प्रकाश्यते । तत्रत्याः “बालमोदिनी”नामिकाः बालकथाः अत्र प्रसार्यन्ते । अतः अस्याः शृङ्खलायाः नाम अपि “बालमोदिनी” एव । लघु गात्रं, सरला भाषा च कथानां विशेषः । प्रत्येकं कथा काञ्चित् नीतिं बोधयति । बालकथाः आबालवृद्धं सर्वेषां प्रियाः । संस्कृतेन ताः श्रोतुम् उपलब्धाः भवन्तु इति एषः प्रयत्नः श्रोतृभ्यः अवश्यं रोचेत इति विश्वासः । संस्कृतक्षेत्रे संस्कृतेन पॉड्कास्ट् क्रियमाणाः एताः प्रप्रथमाः कथाः इति सगौरवम् उद्घोष्यते ।
