Felix already knew about the Way. He had a Jewish wife and two years of governing a region full of Christians. He knew the honest verdict was not guilty, and he could not bring himself to deliver it. So he adjourned, which gives the appearance of seriousness without the cost of decision. Then he sent for Paul and the courtroom flipped inside out. Paul preached righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, three knives aimed straight at a man who had abandoned all three. Luke says Felix became afraid, using a word reserved for supernatural encounters. The Spirit was dismantling a powerful man’s defenses, and the gospel was one honest answer away from changing his life. Felix said, leave for now, when I find time I’ll call for you. The convenient season never arrived. It never does. Later is where good intentions go to die.
