And here’s today’s news from Public Sector Executive – on Friday the 31st May 2024.
Lancashire County Council has confirmed that last week’s General Election announcement has stalled the finalising of its devolution deal.
The government announced in November 2023 that it would be willing to enter into a deal to bring devolution to the county, with this bringing together Lancashire County Council, Blackpool Council, and Blackburn with Darwen Council. Once finally approved, the deal would allow the new Combined County Authority to hold more power, whilst also injecting further investment.
In a statement, the leaders of the three involved councils said: “we will continue to work together and be ready to conclude this with the new government when it is formed in July as we believe this remains a great opportunity for our country.”

Sheffield City Council has announced that it has appointed a Chair for its Race Equality Partnership.
Fatima Khan-Shah has been appointed as the Chair of the partnership, bringing a wealth of experience in leadership, diversity and inclusion. She has previously led nationally-recognised, award winning programmes that are based around equality, diversity and inclusion, and has the added bonus of being born and raised in Sheffield.
Launched earlier this year, the Race Equality Partnership for Sheffield brings people and organisations together to ensure that Sheffield is an anti-racist city.
