Alter Ego Effect Action Plan
Applying the principles of the alter ego effect can be powerful in your life and your business. There are some action steps outlined below in this section, but they aren’t a substitute for reading the book. I highly recommend getting your own copy of the book so you can hear from Todd himself.
Once you’ve done that I suggest implementing the action plan below:
1. Decide on who your alter ego will be and why
Think about the people who‘ve inspired you most in your life. What qualities about them do you find inspiring? For instance, I find Barack Obama’s speeches to be very inspiring. I felt he stood up for what he believed in and reformed the financial and health systems in his two terms. This meant he faced a lot of criticism. But his commitment to his vision and his ability to stay focused was exactly what I found inspiring.
Who do you find inspiring? Why do you find them inspiring? Grab a pen and paper and write their names down. Write down the qualities you admire in them. What about their qualities do you relate to? Why?
2. Reconnect with your inner child to suspend disbelief (and unlearn the self-limiting lessons that 'growing up' has taught you)
Remember when you were a young kid around the age of 7? Do you remember feeling a sense of wonder and excitement about most things in life? Do you remember feeling filled with possibility? But then as you grew into your teens and then into adulthood, that sense of possibility kinda faded away? The world told you to be realistic? Dreaming of possibility was seen to be immature and childish?
